Can a common numbing drug replace opioids for gallbladder surgery pain?
NCT ID NCT07312877
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study looked at 138 adults having gallbladder removal surgery to see if a numbing medicine called lidocaine works as well as a strong opioid (remifentanil) for controlling pain after surgery. Patients received one of the two drugs during the operation, and their pain levels were checked at 1, 6, 12, and 24 hours after surgery. The goal is to find a safer, opioid-sparing option that still keeps patients comfortable.
