First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether lidocaine, a common numbing drug, works as well as remifentanil (an opioid) for pain after laparoscopic gallbladder removal. 138 adults took part. The goal is to find effective pain relief with fewer opioid side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
lidocaine and remifentanil
What this could lead to
If lidocaine works as well as remifentanil, it could offer a safer, opioid-sparing option for pain control after gallbladder surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study, not a large randomized trial. Results may not apply to other surgeries or patient groups.
