NCT ID NCT06304779
First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether a continuous 24-hour intravenous infusion of lidocaine can lower the chance of serious lung complications (like pneumonia or needing a breathing machine) in adults who need emergency abdominal surgery for an infection inside the belly. About 428 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either lidocaine or a placebo drip. The goal is to see if this common numbing medicine can help protect the lungs and improve recovery after surgery.
