New MRI techniques aim to spot hidden cancers in high-risk families

NCT ID NCT03176836

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether advanced MRI scans can detect very small tumors and tell them apart from harmless growths in people with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS), a genetic condition that greatly increases cancer risk. About 30 participants with a known TP53 mutation will undergo special imaging. The goal is to improve early detection, not to treat or cure the condition.
