Antibiotic shield may protect kids with leukemia from deadly fevers

NCT ID NCT07320534

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving the antibiotic levofloxacin to children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can delay or prevent the first episode of febrile neutropenia (a dangerous fever with low white blood cells) during their initial chemotherapy. About 124 children aged 1 to 18 will receive either levofloxacin or a placebo daily. Researchers will monitor fevers, infections, and side effects to see if the antibiotic helps keep these young patients safer during treatment.
