New hope for newborns: seizure drug shows promise in brain injury

Summary

This study tested the drug levetiracetam as a first treatment for seizures in 18 full-term newborns who had brain injury from lack of oxygen at birth. The goal was to find the right dose and check if the drug is safe and works well. The study measured how much seizures decreased on brain wave tests and watched for side effects.
