Scientists test Immune-Boosting combo against tough blood cancers

Summary
This early-stage study is testing the safety and best dose of a two-drug combination for patients with advanced myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that has returned or not responded to prior treatment. The trial combines a chemotherapy drug (decitabine) with an immunotherapy drug (ipilimumab) that aims to help the body's own immune system fight the cancer. It is enrolling up to 54 adults whose cancer has progressed despite previous therapies, including some who have had a stem cell transplant.
