Laughter yoga tested as a tool to ease autism anxiety and parent stress
NCT ID NCT06326255
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study explores whether laughter yoga can reduce depression and anxiety in children with autism spectrum disorder (ages 8–12) and lower parenting stress for their parents. 66 families will either take part in laughter yoga sessions or be placed on a waiting list. The study focuses on whether families find it acceptable and feasible, and measures changes in mood and stress.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- laughter yoga
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a low-cost, fun way to help children with autism feel less anxious or depressed and support their parents.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (66 families) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. Results may not apply broadly, and laughter yoga may not work for everyone.
