Can laser therapy zap away neck headaches?

NCT ID NCT07163208

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 39 times

Summary

This study tests whether low-level laser therapy (LLLT) using different light wavelengths can reduce pain and headache frequency in people with cervicogenic headache—a headache caused by neck problems. About 150 adults aged 18–65 with this headache for at least 3 months will receive one of three laser treatments plus standard physical therapy over 6 weeks. Researchers will track pain, headache frequency, neck movement, and quality of life to find the most effective laser option.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a safe, non-drug option to reduce headache pain and frequency for people with cervicogenic headache.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with no blinding, so results may be influenced by placebo effects. It also does not compare against a sham laser group, making it harder to confirm real benefits.
