Zapping tiny thyroid tumors: laser test aims to avoid surgery
NCT ID NCT04623801
Summary
This study is testing whether using a laser to heat and destroy very small thyroid cancers is a safe and effective alternative to surgery. It will involve 10 patients who have a tiny papillary thyroid cancer but do not want to just watch and wait. Doctors will use a needle to guide the laser to the tumor, then check if the cancer was completely destroyed by examining tissue removed 6 months later.
