Larynx transplants: a new voice for the voiceless?

NCT ID NCT03269396

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether a larynx transplant can safely restore function in people who have lost their voice box due to injury, disease, or surgery. Ten adults with severe laryngeal problems will receive a donor larynx and be monitored for one year to see if the transplant survives and improves swallowing, breathing, and voice. Because lifelong anti-rejection medication is needed, this is a disease-control approach, not a cure.
