New heart plug aims to cut stroke risk without blood thinners

This early study tests a new device (LAmbre II) that plugs a small pouch in the heart called the left atrial appendage. In people with atrial fibrillation, this pouch can form blood clots that cause strokes. The device is meant to seal the pouch so patients can avoid long-term blood thinner medication. The study includes 10 adults with atrial fibrillation who are at high risk for stroke but cannot take blood thinners. Researchers will check if the device is safe and closes the pouch properly.
