First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple breath test for lactose intolerance can predict if a lactose-free diet will improve symptoms in people with moderate to severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Researchers will compare symptom changes and quality of life between those who test positive and negative for lactose malabsorption. The goal is to better understand who benefits most from avoiding lactose.
