Milk protein could shield fragile babies from deadly hospital infection

NCT ID NCT07255742

Summary

This study tested whether giving lactoferrin, a protein found in milk, could prevent pneumonia in premature babies who need help breathing with a ventilator. Researchers enrolled 50 infants to see if lactoferrin reduced infections, shortened time on the breathing machine, and led to shorter hospital stays. The goal was to find a safe way to protect these vulnerable newborns from a serious complication of hospital care.
