Lactase drops may boost weight gain in preemies

NCT ID NCT07150884

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding lactase drops to milk helps premature babies (born at 28-34 weeks) gain weight better. Many preemies lack enough lactase to digest lactose, which can cause diarrhea and slow growth. Researchers will compare weight gain in 100 babies who get lactase-fortified milk versus those who get regular milk, with all other care being the same.
