New combo procedure aims to cut stroke risk and improve heart function in AFib patients
NCT ID NCT07453940
First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study compares two approaches for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat) who have mild symptoms but a high risk of stroke. One group gets a procedure to close off a part of the heart called the left atrial appendage (LAAC), while the other group gets that plus a newer type of ablation (PFA) to correct the heart rhythm. The goal is to see if the combined treatment improves exercise capacity and brain blood flow more than closure alone. About 50 adults will take part, and their progress will be tracked for 6 months.
