New combo procedure aims to cut stroke and improve heart function in AFib patients

NCT ID NCT07453940

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether doing two procedures at once—closing off a small heart pouch (LAAC) to prevent stroke and using a special energy (PFA) to fix irregular heartbeats—works better than just closing the pouch alone. About 50 adults with persistent atrial fibrillation and high stroke risk will take part. The goal is to see if the combined approach improves exercise ability and blood flow to the brain more than the single procedure.
