Ultramarathon kidney check: new study monitors runners for hidden injury
NCT ID NCT07519408
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at how running the Western States Endurance Run, a 100-mile race, affects kidney health. Researchers will collect urine and blood samples from 30 runners before and after the race, and track their effort with GPS and heart-rate monitors. The goal is to find out how often kidney stress happens during extreme exercise and what factors, like dehydration or pain relievers, may contribute. No follow-up is needed, and results will help make ultramarathon training and medical care safer.
