New approach aims to curb opioid dependence after major injuries

Summary
This study is testing if adding a short, scheduled course of the anti-inflammatory drug ketorolac to standard pain care after major bone trauma surgery can help prevent patients from needing opioids long-term. Researchers will enroll about 458 adults with serious orthopedic injuries. Half will receive the ketorolac treatment for five days after surgery, and all will be followed for six months to see if it reduces chronic opioid use and improves how patients function with their pain.
