Skin color may skew jaundice readings in newborns

NCT ID NCT07315126

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a common, non-invasive jaundice test (using a light meter on the skin) is accurate for newborns with different skin colors. Darker skin may interfere with the device. Researchers will compare the skin test results with blood tests in 510 babies to see if skin color affects reliability.
