New ultrasound method may detect hidden heart blockages without extra procedures

NCT ID NCT07176585

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested whether a detailed ultrasound (IVUS) of the heart's arteries can accurately diagnose reduced blood flow (functional ischemia) in 105 people with coronary artery disease. Researchers compared IVUS plaque measurements to the standard pressure-wire test (FFR). The goal was to see if IVUS alone could reliably identify blockages that need treatment, potentially reducing the need for additional invasive tests.
