Mini ultrasound inside the aorta could save lives after emergency heart surgery

NCT ID NCT04907071

First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to check blood flow to organs right after surgery for a torn aorta. Doctors used a tiny ultrasound probe placed inside the aorta to see if any organs were not getting enough blood. The goal was to find and fix problems faster, before they cause permanent damage. 50 adults who had aortic dissection with signs of poor blood flow took part.
