Old drug, new hope? ivermectin tackles stubborn skin disease
NCT ID NCT07286604
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early study tested whether the drug ivermectin could safely treat post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL), a skin condition that can appear after recovery from visceral leishmaniasis. Ten otherwise healthy adults with PKDL took ivermectin pills for five days each month for three months. Researchers monitored for side effects and checked if skin lesions improved. The goal was to see if ivermectin could offer a simpler, shorter treatment option.
