New drug combo may reduce deadly transplant complication in blood cancer patients

NCT ID NCT04339101

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding the drug itacitinib to the usual two-drug regimen (tacrolimus and sirolimus) could better prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in 59 adults with blood cancers (acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or myelofibrosis) undergoing a donor stem cell transplant. GVHD occurs when donor immune cells attack the patient's body. The goal was to see if this three-drug combination improves survival and reduces severe GVHD without increasing side effects.
