Arm cuff trick shields kidneys during cancer surgery, trial hopes
NCT ID NCT07497958
First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests whether temporarily restricting blood flow to the arm (called ischemic preconditioning) before kidney cancer surgery can reduce damage to the kidney. About 174 adults scheduled for partial nephrectomy will be randomly assigned to receive the arm-cuff treatment or not. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive technique helps the kidney recover better after surgery.
