No PT needed? new study tests skipping Post-Surgery clearance for joint replacement patients
NCT ID NCT05858086
First seen Feb 13, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looks at whether it's safe for people having hip or knee replacement to go home the same day without a final physical therapy (PT) check. Instead, patients get PT training before surgery and walk with a nurse after. The goal is to see if this approach leads to more falls, ER visits, or readmissions. About 210 adults who are healthy enough for same-day discharge will take part.
