New biomarkers could prevent unnecessary pancreatic surgery

NCT ID NCT06574373

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study looks for biological markers (biomarkers) that can tell the difference between harmless and dangerous pancreatic cysts called IPMNs. Some IPMNs can turn into pancreatic cancer, but current methods to predict this are not very accurate. Researchers will study tissue and blood samples from 3,600 people to find molecular clues that could help doctors decide who needs surgery and who can safely wait and watch.
