Could a tampon replace the stoma bag? small study explores new option

NCT ID NCT06897163

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special absorbent tampon placed inside the intestine can collect waste from an ileostomy, possibly replacing the need for a stoma bag. Ten adults with an ileostomy tried inserting the tampon themselves and rated their comfort. The goal was to see if the tampon is easy to use and less painful, which could improve daily life for people with an ileostomy.
