Could a tampon replace the stoma bag? new study explores a novel approach
NCT ID NCT06897163
First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested whether a special absorbent tampon placed inside the intestine can collect waste from an ileostomy, potentially replacing the need for external stoma bags. Ten adults with an ileostomy tried inserting the tampon themselves and rated their comfort. The goal is to see if this new method is practical and less bothersome, which could improve daily life for people with an ileostomy.
