Breathing easy? Low-Oxygen training may sharpen aging brains

NCT ID NCT05495087

First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether breathing slightly low-oxygen air in short sessions (intermittent hypoxia training) is safe and can improve memory and thinking in adults aged 55–79 with mild cognitive impairment. Participants are randomly assigned to receive the real treatment or a sham (placebo) version for up to 12 weeks. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug approach can boost cognitive function and even increase brain gray matter.
