Heart pump drugs under scrutiny: do they really help in shock?

NCT ID NCT05267886

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether drugs that help the heart pump stronger (inotropes) actually help people in cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition where the heart can't pump enough blood. About 346 critically ill adults will get either one of two common drugs (milrinone or dobutamine) or a placebo. The goal is to see if these drugs reduce death and serious complications in the first 12 hours.
