Bag it or not? new study tests safer uterine surgery

NCT ID NCT03281460

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looked at whether using a special bag during laparoscopic surgery (for removing fibroids or the uterus) can prevent stray cells from spreading inside the belly. 48 women were randomly assigned to have the procedure with or without the bag. The main goal was to check for muscle cells in the fluid after surgery, which could indicate a risk of spreading potentially harmful cells.
