Rural veterans may soon get prosthetic fittings at home
NCT ID NCT05884203
First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether a helper (like a family member) can use a simple digital scanner to capture the shape of a veteran's leg stump, so a new prosthetic socket can be made without an in-person clinic visit. 25 veterans with below-knee amputations will be randomly assigned to get a socket made either by a helper using digital methods or by a prosthetist using traditional casting. The goal is to see if the helper-made socket fits just as well, reducing travel burden for rural veterans.
