New study aims to prevent oxygen emergencies during common gut procedure

NCT ID NCT07056075

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a breathing mask (positive airway pressure) or a special carbon dioxide monitor (capnometry) can reduce dangerous drops in oxygen levels during a procedure called ERCP, which examines the bile ducts. About 288 adults having ERCP under sedation will be randomly assigned to one of these two methods or standard care. The goal is to find a simple, cost-effective way to make the procedure safer without needing full anesthesia.
