First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at whether extra help in reading and math can improve skills for first-graders who start school behind in these areas. 385 students were randomly assigned to receive reading tutoring, math tutoring, both, or their school's usual program for 15 weeks. Researchers tested their reading and math fluency before and after the program to see which approach worked best.
