Gene test before surgery could prevent drug reactions

NCT ID NCT03729180

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving doctors genetic information about their patients before surgery can help them choose safer medications. About 1900 adults having elective surgery at the University of Chicago will provide a blood sample for genetic testing. Some doctors will receive the genetic results to guide their drug choices, while others will not, to see if the genetic information reduces the use of high-risk drugs.
