Glowing dye lights up hidden cancer for surgeons

NCT ID NCT03834272

Summary

This study tested a new imaging system to see if it could help surgeons spot hard-to-find cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen. It involved 18 patients with cancers from the colon, appendix, ovary, or mesothelioma who were already scheduled for surgery. The system uses a special fluorescent agent (LUM015) that is supposed to make cancer cells glow, aiming to help surgeons remove more of the disease.
