First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested a radioactive tracer called Annexin to see if it could detect early lung damage in people with COPD and in smokers. Researchers compared scans from healthy non-smokers, healthy smokers, and people with moderate to severe COPD. The goal was to find a better way to diagnose lung damage early, before it becomes severe.
