ICU diary could ease caregiver burnout
NCT ID NCT07631260
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a constructive ICU diary can reduce stress, sleep problems, and fatigue in family caregivers of ICU patients on ventilators. About 142 caregivers will be invited to keep a diary during their loved one's ICU stay. Researchers will measure changes in sleep, fatigue, stress, and coping using standard questionnaires.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ICU diary
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could give families a simple, low-cost tool to cope better during a loved one's ICU stay.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding, so results may be influenced by expectations. The diary may not reduce stress or sleep problems for everyone.
