New dye test could save kids' testicles and cut needless surgeries

NCT ID NCT07545278

First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether a safe dye called indocyanine green (ICG) can accurately diagnose testicular torsion in children and young people with testicular pain. Currently, up to 85% of kids who have surgery for suspected torsion don't actually have it, leading to unnecessary operations. The goal is to see if ICG imaging can quickly tell which patients truly need surgery, avoiding delays and reducing harm.
