Can a simple dye cut dangerous colon surgery leaks?
NCT ID NCT06793280
First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether using a special dye (ICG) during colon cancer surgery helps surgeons see blood flow and choose where to cut, aiming to lower the risk of a serious complication called anastomotic leak. Over 560 adults having planned laparoscopic colon surgery were randomly assigned to either standard care or the dye-guided approach. The main goal was to see if the dye actually reduces leak rates, and the results will help guide future surgical practices.
