Gene testing aims to match kids with rare cancers to the right drugs

NCT ID NCT02520713

First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study enrolls children and young adults (up to age 30) with solid tumors that have come back or not responded to standard treatment. Researchers use genetic testing of the tumor to look for specific changes that might point to a targeted therapy. The goal is to see if patients who receive a therapy matched to their tumor's genetic profile live longer than those who do not.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Genetic testing and tumor profiling

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help identify which targeted therapies work best for individual children with hard-to-treat solid tumors, potentially improving survival.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly benefit participants, and many patients may not receive a matching therapy.

Conditions
