New study tests extra tissue flap to improve hypospadias surgery outcomes
NCT ID NCT07525570
First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at 120 boys aged 2-12 with a common birth defect where the urinary opening is on the underside of the penis (distal hypospadias). Researchers compared two surgical repair methods: one using a standard double-layer tissue cover, and another adding an extra tissue flap (Byars' flap). The goal was to see if the extra flap reduces complications like holes (fistulas) or narrowing, and improves cosmetic and functional results over 6 months.
