New study tests better surgical fix for boys born with penis opening in wrong spot

NCT ID NCT07525570

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at 120 boys aged 2-12 who had surgery to correct distal hypospadias, a birth defect where the urine opening is not at the tip of the penis. Doctors compared two surgical techniques: one using a standard double-layer tissue cover, and another adding an extra flap. The goal was to see which method led to fewer complications like fistulas (abnormal openings) and better cosmetic results over 6 months.
