Gut bacteria linked to bone loss in parathyroid disease
NCT ID NCT04948671
First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the types of bacteria in the gut can help predict bone loss in people with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), a condition where the parathyroid glands produce too much hormone. Researchers planned to analyze gut bacteria and immune system activity in 25 adults with PHPT, comparing those with and without bone loss. The goal was to see if gut bacteria could be used as a screening tool to identify who is at risk, but the study was terminated early.
