Gut bacteria linked to bone loss in parathyroid disorder
NCT ID NCT04948671
First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the types of bacteria in your gut can influence bone loss caused by primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), a condition where the parathyroid glands produce too much hormone. Researchers planned to compare the gut bacteria and immune system activity in 25 adults with PHPT, some with bone loss and some without. The goal was to see if a simple gut bacteria test could predict who will develop bone problems, potentially leading to new treatments. However, the study was terminated early, so results are limited.
