New MRI technique spots cancer by its sugar hunger

NCT ID NCT05697406

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests a special MRI that uses a natural sugar-like substance (pyruvate) to see how tumors use energy. Cancer cells often consume more sugar than normal cells, and this scan aims to make that visible. About 25 adults with known tumors will be scanned to see if this method can help detect or characterize different cancers.
