Oxygen therapy shows promise for boosting brain and body in seniors
NCT ID NCT02790541
First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) — breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber — could improve blood flow, brain function, and fitness in healthy adults aged 65 and older. Sixty-two participants received HBOT sessions, and researchers measured changes in brain scans, cognitive tests, and exercise capacity over six months. The goal was to see if HBOT could counteract some effects of aging by stimulating new blood vessel growth and improving oxygen use.
