Summary
This study tested whether breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) could reduce pain and shorten hospital stays for adults having a sickle cell pain crisis. Eight adults with uncomplicated sickle cell pain crises received 1 to 3 sessions of this therapy. Researchers measured pain levels before and after each session and tracked how long participants stayed in the hospital.
