First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study followed 198 runners in the 2015 Ultra-Trail Mont-Blanc to see if drinking only when thirsty (versus following a set schedule) helps maintain healthy sodium levels in the blood. Researchers measured sodium before and after the race, along with weight changes and running history. The goal was to learn which hydration approach is safer for endurance athletes.
